Who is this service for?
What we do
We work to help people make dietary changes to prevent and treat nutrition related diseases and their symptoms including:
- Malnutrition and swallowing difficulties.
- Diabetes.
We offer tailored advice and treatment to help you improve your health and lifestyle, either in a group session or on an individual basis. We also provide training to healthcare professionals and work closely with other professionals to provide care in the community via advice and guidance.
Our Diabetes and Nutrition Service (DANS) provides education, information and support on diabetes and nutrition to people in our care, their carers and healthcare professionals in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
We see people in our care for one to one clinic or home visit appointments, telephone or video appointments as well as in our rehabilitation units. We support and provide advice about diet and lifestyle changes to prevent and treat nutrition related diseases and conditions such as:
- Malnutrition and sarcopenia.
- Irritable bowel syndrome, supporting people to follow the low FODMAP diet.
- Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
- People under the Adult Learning Disability Service for malnutrition, weight management or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) support.
Our dietitians also deliver group education for health care professionals about the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST), and work closely with other professionals to provide care in the community by providing advice and guidance.
