NHS England has announced that Duncan Burton has been appointed as the new Chief Nursing Officer for England.
The Chief Nursing Officer is the person responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership for all nurses, midwives and nursing associates across health and social care in England. They also provide clinical and workforce advice to the NHS leadership and ministers and officials in the Department of Health and Social Care.
Sirona’s Chief Nursing & Allied Health Officer Mary Lewis commented on the appointment:
“I would like to congratulate Duncan on his appointment and look forward to working with him in the future. Duncan has a high level of expertise in clinical workforce requirements. Creating a sustainable workforce will be his highest priority, and he will be continuing the work to inspire the next generation of nurses.
“Nursing is a rewarding career, and Duncan started his career in the south-west and we look forward to working with him to continue to improve our nursing services for the people we serve.”
