Secret Santa brings seasonal cheer to service users

Sirona’s “Secret” Santa delivered seasonal cheer to service users across the areas it serves in the lead up to Christmas.

From entertainment technology for residents in its care homes to providing warm clothing for homeless people in Bath and from young parents with tiny babies struggling to avoid the basics and living in cramped conditions in South Gloucestershire. All have been helped by money given by the social enterprise’s charitable arm, The Sirona Foundation.

Staff are invited to nominate people in their care who they believe would benefit from a gift, sometimes it is a treat after a particularly difficult time and for others it is to provide essentials which they are unable to fund themselves.

Sirona provides health and care services across South Gloucestershire and beyond as well as providing residential and extra care in Bath and North East Somerset.

David Purdon, Foundation Trustee, said: “Sirona’s staff make a difference to people’s lives every day and will be providing care day and night throughout the Christmas period; this initiative enables the teams to provide extras for people who would otherwise go without what so many of us consider to be basics.

“The gifts do not cost much in monetary terms but make a huge difference to people’s lives both in practical terms but also emotionally, as individuals know someone really cares about the difficulties they are facing.

“For some people the only person they will see this Christmas is one of our members of staff so to be able to deliver a hamper of treats or a practical gift is just as lovely for the teams too.

“Gifts are as personal as possible for the individual; one father and son will be watching the Bristol Rovers v Doncaster Rovers match on Saturday (23rd) as the dad is a lifelong fan of the team and illness has meant he has been confined to home so a day out with his son will make a huge difference to him.

“Within our residential homes in Bath, Midsomer Norton and Keynsham, the Foundation also ensures a personal gift is under the Christmas tree for every resident.”
