Clinicians get vital information on the move

Sirona care & health trained their 350 clinicians to use the EMIS Mobile native app in just two days – getting all their teams up and running with minimal disruption to services.

Sirona is a not-for-profit social enterprise providing high quality community health and care services in South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset and surrounding areas within GP surgeries, hospitals, clinics and the homes of individuals and their families.

EMIS Mobile provides Sirona’s clinicians with access to vital information on the move by allowing them to easily see and edit real-time information that’s held in EMIS Web. With an individual’s records available electronically, it helps to save time, reduce trips back to base and supports better, safer decisions at the point of care. The native apps (available on iOS, Android and Windows) are able to take advantage of the latest technology too, making them faster and more responsive while also improving usability.

Knowing that their clinicians can’t take full days away from care, the team at Sirona came up with a plan to help get their staff get used to the new app. They held a two-day workshop that individuals could drop in to – we then provided support across these two days.

As Shonna Spreadbury, Sirona’s clinical systems manager explains, “Our vision was to deploy the new app to clinicians as quickly as possible. We devised a 45-minute training session with 15 minutes to download the app”.

Ten sessions were delivered over the two days, with mop up sessions then held for staff who couldn’t make the initial workshop. The event was a huge success – Shonna says they were able to “Send the clinicians back out to work on the same day”.

Ian Bailey, head of product management and clinical lead at EMIS Health said: “Sirona has long been a keen advocate of EMIS Mobile, which is an integral tool for their clinicians. It was great to be able to support their move to the new version and receive such positive feedback. Developing the app on native platforms has enabled us to improve performance and provides much greater scope for future development. This means that our customers will be able to take advantage of the latest technology when working away from a clinic or office”.
