A new Centralised Booking Service for Community Paediatric appointments across Bristol and South Gloucestershire has launched today (23 April).

In future after a child is referred to the service, the referrals will be triaged electronically by paediatricians in four local areas – South Gloucestershire, Bristol East, Bristol North & Central and South Bristol –  and then actioned by the Central Booking team ensuring a consistent service across all areas.

People will have a  single telephone number created for the service (0300 125 6666) with a dedicated team handling  enquiries from parents and carers regarding appointments, waiting lists and cancellations.

Community Children’s Health Partnership provides children’s health services across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, led by Sirona care & health, working in partnership with Bristol Community Health and Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

The changes have been made following feedback from parents and carers about how they access the service and where improvements could be made.

Jenny Theed, Director of Nursing and Operations, said: “We have really listened to what parents and carers have had to say about appointments with paediatricians and the need for a dedicated number to ensure the service is joined up so I’m really pleased we are able to launch the new Centralised Booking Team.

“We will continue to listen to those using the service and use that feedback to further learn and improve our systems.”

New IT hardware and software has been installed, along with a telephone handling system which keeps callers informed about when they can expect their call to be answered during busy periods.

There will be no change for those referring into the service with referrals continuing to be made through the Single Point of Entry at Eastgate House
