Wrap around support helping pupils develop speech and language skills in the classroom is to be provided for thousands of children and young people at four Bristol schools.
Community health services provider, Sirona care & health, has been appointed by Trust in Learning (Academies) which runs Orchard School, Filton Avenue Primary, Parson Street Primary and Bridge Learning Campus to provide a holistic approach to the support provided in its classrooms.
The Sirona team will be working with children, young people, parents and teachers to embed the best possible support in the schools to help those with differing levels of speech, language and communication needs.
This will range from providing an e-advisory service to ensuring access to specialist Speech and Language Therapists for pupils, liaising with parents while ensuring professional development for staff.
Mark Davies, TILA Chief Executive, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to support our young people to develop speech, language and communication skills across our schools.
“We believe working in partnership is the foundation for successful education outcomes and we all have individual and collective strength and opportunity by supporting and learning from others and we felt this approach was mirrored by Sirona. We were impressed by the organisation’s track record of providing high quality support and the feedback from parents and children.”
Gerry Bates, Sirona’s Head of Children’s Services in Bristol, said: “We are committed to working with children and young people to support them to reach their potential. We are really looking forward to working with the TILA community to further improve outcomes for children with speech, language and communication needs and reducing the impact of any difficulties on an individual’s academic and social success.”
Julie Sharma, Sirona’s Director of Transformation, said: “ We are delighted to be awarded this contract; we are committed to working in partnership with people and organisations across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire as we believe it is only by working together with others we can truly make a difference for individuals and families.
“Working with TILA is a fantastic example of tailoring services to the needs of a local community and we are looking forward to meeting the children, young people and their families and ensuring they have the support they need to achieve their goals.”
The contract starts on 1 September 2020
