The Public Health Nursing team works alongside all families with children aged 0-19 years across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
Our teams work with children, families and communities in their own homes and in schools to prevent ill health, protect health and promote wellbeing.
We lead, influence and collaborate with other agencies and organisations to improve and embed sustainable changes to the overall health and wellbeing of children and young people.
Our service is committed to improving the health of local children, families and communities and seeking to reduce health inequalities across the diverse communities and populations of BNSSG.
The roles in our teams are School Nurses and Health Visitors.
Overview of SCPHN Programme

Overview of School Nurses Service
School Nurses are qualified Nurses or Midwives with a specialist qualification in public health. They work alongside young people and families offering support and information around topics such as sexual health, emotional support and relationships, sleep, smoking/vaping and healthy eating and exercise.
Their training in public health enables them to provide evidence-based support and information on a wide range of topics that promote the health and well-being of children and young people.
Overview of Health Visiting Service
The health visiting service works in local communities with children and families from the antenatal period until they go to school. The health visiting service offers support to parents to maximise the health and wellbeing of their family through discussion about their health needs and strengths, building supportive family relationships and engaging in wider community service and support.
Their training in public health enables them to provide evidence-based support and information on a wide range of topics that promote the health and well-being of children and their families.
