Musculoskeletal Foot and Ankle Service

The MSK Foot and Ankle Service offers assessment and treatment for people with musculoskeletal conditions and associated soft tissue symptoms of the foot and ankle.

It is aimed at people who have already had appropriate conservative management, including but not limited to, lifestyle advice, pain management advice and medication advice.

It is run by expert clinicians, including extended scope Podiatrists, aiming to determine the best course of care using their clinical expertise, evidence and shared decision making.

The service offers:

• Orthopaedic triage assessment with advanced practice skill sets including ability to image/inject/refer on to secondary care
• Clinical specialist assessment including gait analysis and conservative management of non-traumatic/non-post operative MSK foot and ankle conditions.

We are a triage service that aims to offer prompt access for assessment, advice and treatment.

Our clinics are held at :

• Cossham Memorial Hospital
• Yate Westgate Centre
• Thornbury Leisure Centre.

At your appointment you will be assessed by either an Extended Scope practitioner (ESP), or a GP with a Special Interest (GPwSI) in Orthopaedics.

Where possible we will explain our diagnosis at the assessment, but we may need to send you for further investigations to support this diagnosis, such as X-rays, scans or blood tests.

Some tests may be offered the same day but for others a further appointment will be made for you.  We will then discuss treatment options with you, which may include advice, exercises and/or injections.

We can refer you to other professional teams such as Physiotherapy and Podiatry if appropriate, and also if we feel that you need further assessment by a Consultant team then we will discuss this with you along with the choice of hospitals available to you for further treatment.
