Who is this service for?

Our Musculoskeletal Interface (MSKI) Service is aimed at people who need more specialist musculoskeletal assessment. For example those that have not responded to normal care from a GP. This could include persistent pain due to a musculoskeletal problem such as osteoarthritis or joint pain, or for people with spinal symptoms such as back pain or sciatic pain (leg pain due to a trapped nerve).

Your GP will refer you to this service if you have not responded to normal GP care such as pain relief and physiotherapy.

At your appointment you will be assessed by either an Specialist Musculoskeletal Clinician, or a GP with a Special Interest in Orthopaedics.

Where possible we will explain our diagnosis at the assessment, but we may need to send you for further investigations to support this diagnosis, such as X-rays, scans or blood tests.

A further appointment will be made for you.  We will then discuss treatment options with you, which may include advice, exercises and/or injections.

We can refer you to other professional teams such as Physiotherapy and Podiatry if appropriate, and also if we feel that you need further assessment by a consultant team then we will discuss this with you along with the choice of hospitals available to you for further treatment.
