Who is this service for?

For adults with specific chronic lymphoedema care needs.

What we do

Lymphoedema is a chronic condition that causes swelling in the body’s tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms or legs.

Other symptoms of lymphoedema can include an aching, heavy feeling in affected body parts and difficulty moving them.

There is no cure for lymphoedema, but it is usually possible to control the main symptoms using techniques to minimise fluid build-up and stimulate the flow of fluid through the lymphatic system.

We provide specialist care, treatment, support and advice to adults with lymphoedema, and their carers, via a team of expert nurses.

We will advise you on compression garments, taking good care of your skin, exercise, and having a healthy diet and lifestyle. We provide person-centred care and individual treatment plans.

The service is based at Portishead. We run clinics at Portishead and Cossham Hospital, Monday-Friday. We also visit housebound patients in their own homes.
