Two female members of the Learning Difficulties and Disabilities team have taken a female service user swimming. All three women are smiling in the pool.

Who is this service for?

This service is for people living in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire who are registered with a GP in the area.

What we do

Hydrotherapy is exercises carried out in warm, shallow water. The water can help relax and support the muscles and joints, while providing resistance to help you gradually get stronger.

Hydrotherapy can be used to treat many illnesses and conditions, including arthritis; fibromyalgia;   joint, muscle, and nerve problems; sleep disorders; and stress. It can be used to reduce or relieve sudden or long-lasting pain.

How do I access this service?

To access this service you need a GP Practice within the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area. Your GP or another member of the healthcare team should be able to refer you to an NHS physiotherapist if they think you might benefit from hydrotherapy.

Before you start hydrotherapy, your physiotherapist will ask about your general health and assess your individual needs. Using this information and the information provided by your doctor, the physiotherapist will advise on whether hydrotherapy is appropriate for you.
