Cleeve Court residents in Bath celebrated the Big Lunch with family and friends.
In the garden, residents enjoyed cupcakes, music, singing and lawn games. They were joined by children from Ash Class at Twerton Infants School to sing a few songs and to have a chat.
Residents and children also learnt about the work of Bath City Farm with the chance to meet some of the farm animals, feed and touch them.
Cleeve Court is one of four care homes in the country to hold this event which is part of the Big Lunch. An annual event, The Big Lunch was launched at The Eden Project in Cornwall in 2009, and since then has grown tenfold and aims to get as many people as possible to get together to celebrate friendship.
The Cleeve Court coffee morning was held with ALIVE – a charitable organisation providing fun and dynamic activity sessions for older people and also, Growing Support – an award winning social enterprise tackling loneliness, social isolation and inactivity.
Maggie Dance, Manager of Cleeve Court said, “I was a bit worried about the rain first thing on the morning, but by 10.30am the sun was shining on Cleeve Court, and we had a fabulous cupcake and coffee morning in the garden. The residents really enjoyed listening to the children singing to us and then had a cuddle with the chickens bought down by Sarah from Bath City Farm.
“I really enjoy involving the local community, especially having the school children visiting and interacting with the older generation and those living with dementia. It really helps to break down the barriers and brings smiles to everyone.”
Cleeve Court is one of three residential care homes in the Bath & North East Somerset area run by Sirona care & health.
